CHARMS OF THE CITY
Om motivet
A black-and-white photograph captured in a poetic, melancholic mood shows a Parisian carousel with richly decorated Belle Époque ornamentation in the foreground, and in the background the majestic Eiffel Tower breaking through a hazy sky. The contrast between the lace-like, almost theatrical structure of the carousel and the geometric rawness of the steel tower creates tension between the lightness of childhood play and the monumentality of architecture. The monochromatic gray palette gives the composition the character of a nostalgic memory, as if a moment torn from long-gone times.
